What Forever Athletes stories are about
The reason we share stories in the first place is to empower our community with realistic hope that they can begin—and sustain—a life of physical fitness, regardless of age, gender, or condition. We do it by establishing an emotive connection with readers, and that’s something to keep in mind when creating your own narrative. Is it a simple true story that comes from the heart? Is it centered around human experiences? What lesson or inspiration can someone take away from it?
Powerful themes for a story might be about positive
transformation or discovering inner strengths. A single parent finding time for regular exercise. Retirees finding ways to get back in the game. A diabetes sufferer losing weight and reversing symptoms through exercise and nutrition. Put simply, we’re looking for stories about people breaking through.
What a good story looks like
The dictionary says a story is an account—a telling—of an event or a series of events and the people involved. The most powerful stories tend to have certain things in common.
Characters.Otherwise known as people. In this case that means you, or the others you’re writing about.
Events. Obstacles that got in the way. Decisions to overcome them. Positive outcomes. Events are the things that happen along the way in a story. Build yours around the most important ones.
Words. The ones to use? That’s up to you. But for word count, we recommend no more than 2,500. Beyond that, don’t worry too much. The right number is usually whatever is needed to tell the story.
